Terms of Use
- You must be 18 or older.
- Don't use Quiet for anything illegal, abusive, sexual involving children, threatening, or spammy. We will ban accounts that do.
- Your chats live on your phone. Back them up; we can't recover them.
- Quiet is provided free and as it is. Indian law applies.
1. Agreement
These Terms are an agreement between you and Someshwar, an individual based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, who operates Quiet ("we", "us"). They form the rules, user agreement and privacy policy required by Rule 3(1)(a) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, together with our Privacy Policy. By tapping Get started or Agree you accept them. If you don't agree, don't use Quiet.
2. Who can use Quiet
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract under the Indian Contract Act, 1872. You must not use Quiet if we have banned you.
3. How Quiet works
- Quiet is a contacts-only messenger. People can reach you only after you accept them. Nobody can add you to a group without your choosing to join.
- Your account lives on your phone. If you lose your phone or clear your browser's data without a backup, your account and chats are gone and we cannot restore them.
- Quiet is not a replacement for emergency services. Don't rely on it to contact police, ambulance or fire services.
- Messages, reminders and notifications depend on your phone, your network and third-party push services, and may be delayed.
4. What you must not do
As required by Rule 3(1)(b) of the IT Rules, 2021, you must not use Quiet to host, display, upload, modify, publish, transmit, store, update or share any information that:
- belongs to another person and to which you have no right;
- is obscene, pornographic, paedophilic, invasive of another's privacy (including bodily privacy), insulting or harassing on the basis of gender, racially or ethnically objectionable, relating to or encouraging money laundering or gambling, or promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion or caste with intent to incite violence;
- is harmful to children;
- infringes any patent, trademark, copyright or other proprietary right;
- deceives or misleads about where a message came from, or knowingly and intentionally communicates misinformation or information that is patently false and untrue or misleading in nature;
- impersonates another person;
- threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, friendly relations with foreign States, or public order; causes incitement to any cognisable offence; prevents investigation of any offence; or insults any other nation;
- contains a software virus or any other computer code, file or program designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer resource;
- is an online game that is not verified as a permissible online game, or advertises or promotes one;
- violates any law for the time being in force.
You also must not: send spam or bulk unsolicited invites; harass, stalk or threaten anyone; plan or promote terrorism or violence; share child sexual abuse material; try to break into Quiet, other accounts or our servers; or overload or reverse-engineer the service to attack it.
5. What happens if you break these rules
Messages are end-to-end encrypted, so we can't see them unless someone reports them to us. When we receive a report, a court order or a lawful direction, we may warn you, suspend or permanently ban your account, and remove access immediately. We may keep the related records for 180 days, or longer if an authority or court asks, for investigation. We will remind all users of these rules at least once a year, in the app.
6. Reporting and complaints
- In any chat, open the menu and tap Report, or long-press a message and tap Report. You can also block anyone at any time.
- For any complaint about content or these Terms, write to our Grievance Officer (section 13). We acknowledge within 24 hours and resolve within 15 days.
- For a complaint that content shows you in a sexual act or conduct, exposes your private area, or impersonates you through morphed images, we will act within 24 hours to the extent we technically can (for example, banning the account that sent it).
7. Cooperation with authorities
We comply with orders of Indian courts and lawful directions from authorised Government agencies, and provide the information we hold (listed in our Privacy Policy) within 72 hours of a lawful order. Because of end-to-end encryption, we do not have and cannot provide the content of your messages.
8. Your content
What you send belongs to you. You give us only the permission needed to pass your encrypted messages to the people you send them to. You are responsible for what you send and must have the right to share it.
9. Our app
The Quiet name, logo, design and software belong to us. You may use the app for personal, non-commercial messaging. Don't copy, rebrand or resell it.
10. No warranty
Quiet is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We don't promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free or that messages will always arrive.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost data or lost chats, or for content sent by other users. As an intermediary we rely on the protection of Section 79 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Indian law.
12. Ending your use
You can stop at any time by deleting your account (Settings → Account & backup → Your data → Delete my account). We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or the law, or if we stop offering Quiet.
13. Grievance Officer and contact
14. Changes, law and disputes
We may update these Terms and will tell you in the app before material changes apply. These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts at Hyderabad, Telangana have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
